Fire near electrical substation cuts power to oil field areas in Ciudad Ojeda
Flames broke out in a drainage ditch containing crude residue near substation C, cutting electricity for several hours in Lagunillas.
A fire near an electrical substation cut power for several hours to neighborhoods across the oil field areas of Ciudad Ojeda, in Zulia state's Lagunillas municipality, on the night of Saturday, October 3, 2026.
The blaze occurred in the vicinity of electrical substation C, located at the intersection of Avenida Intercomunal and Carretera U, an infrastructure that supplies power to the local oil fields. According to sources connected to firefighting efforts cited in reports, the fire started in a drainage channel where crude oil residue had accumulated. The combustible material fueled tall flames and a thick column of smoke visible across several neighborhoods.
The incident temporarily interrupted power distribution to communities across the oil fields dependent on the installation. Following the event, service began to be restored gradually. The causes that triggered the blaze in the ditch remain under investigation, and authorities have not specified whether the substation's physical equipment sustained direct damage.
