Guanipa says Venezuela must convince US it wants and is ready for elections
The opposition leader reacted to Donald Trump's assessment that presidential elections in Venezuela remain premature.

Opposition leader Juan Pablo Guanipa stated that Venezuelans must make the United States and the rest of the world understand that the country wants and is prepared to hold a presidential election.
Guanipa made the remarks after US President Donald Trump said in a Time Magazine interview that Venezuela could hold elections, though he warned it is still too soon. Trump indicated he would speak with Delcy Rodríguez about the issue but stressed that the matter is delicate at present.
The statements follow a meeting between Trump and Rodríguez in New York during the United Nations General Assembly on September 22. According to the source consulted, this was the first such encounter after the capture of Nicolás Maduro in a US military operation on January 3.
