High-tension cable failure leaves Amazonas without phone and internet for over 20 hours

The incident disrupted services across the Venezuelan state and led residents to rent satellite internet by the hour.

According to the source consulted, according to the consulted report, a high-tension cable spanning the Orinoco River between Puerto Páez in Apure state and Puerto Nuevo in Bolívar state fell, leaving Amazonas without telephone and internet service for more than 20 hours.

The event also caused a power outage lasting several hours in Puerto Ayacucho. Mobile and fixed telephony, including voice and data, were interrupted, hindering sales in local businesses.

Some residents rented satellite internet by the hour at a cost of 2,000 Colombian pesos, equivalent to about 1,000 bolívares per hour.

The cable landed on a barge. Videos showed sparks from a tower and the cable resting on a bus aboard the vessel, raising concern over possible electric discharge.

Authorities in Amazonas issued no official information about the incident.
