According to the report consulted, Fedenaga requested exemplary sanctions from the National Assembly to address crimes impacting agricultural production. The request was made during the opening of the national public consultation for the Law on the Promotion, Development and Protection of Livestock Activity.

A mixed commission from the committees on Internal Politics and Economy and Finance, led by deputies Nicolás Maduro Guerra and Jesús Faria, received proposals from agricultural guilds. José Labrador, president of Fedenaga, stated after the meeting that it is time to modernize the legal instrument to protect the Venezuelan countryside.

Labrador noted that the law has not been updated since 1997 and that the rule of law and respect for private property must be prioritized. He said exemplary penalties would deter impunity affecting production, food sovereignty and investment.

The leader added that strengthening the sector would allow greater output, better conditions for producers and workers, and a larger contribution to the national gross domestic product.
