OpenAI has updated its ChatGPT platform with a virtual try-on feature that allows users to preview how clothing and accessories look on their own bodies before buying. Available on both the web interface and mobile applications, the feature introduces a dedicated try-on button alongside commercial product listings.

According to consulted sources, the system works by having the user upload a selfie or full-body photograph, onto which the software overlays the chosen item. Beyond items found in integrated product listings, the tool accepts external screenshots of apparel from third-party online retailers. Visual rendering is driven by the ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, released in September 2026, which focuses on delivering greater fidelity in fabric textures, drape, and ambient lighting. The update also includes a favorites library where users can organize and save tested garments into folders.

Technical reports note that the visual fit provides a photographic approximation rather than precise tailoring or physical sizing measurements. On data handling, sources observe that images uploaded to personal accounts may be used to train future company models unless the user explicitly disables the option in their privacy settings.

This release places the platform in closer competition with established technology firms, such as U.S.-based Alphabet Inc.'s Google, which rolled out photo-based try-on capabilities within its search and shopping services in 2025.

OpenAI is an American artificial intelligence development company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It created the conversational assistant ChatGPT and various multimodal generative models. The company's digital services operate globally and remain accessible to internet users in Venezuela via web browsers and mobile networks, though it maintains no direct corporate offices or legal registration in the country.
