A Caracas trial court specialized in terrorism cases issued a full acquittal and granted unconditional freedom to political figures Guillermo López and Luis Camacaro in early October 2026. The judicial decision marks the conclusion of the criminal proceeding known as White Armband, a case initiated following their arrests in early 2024 that lasted nearly three years.

Upon regaining his full civil status outside the court building, López called for the complete repeal of the Anti-Hate Law rather than any proposed legislative reform, while expressing solidarity with individuals who remain detained for political reasons, according to the consulted source. Throughout the hearings, the defense was led by attorneys Omar Mora Tosta and Tamara Bechar.

The case had originally been launched after Attorney General Tarek William Saab accused both activists of taking part in alleged plots against Nicolás Maduro, allegations consistently denied by their defense counsel. The figures had previously been released from detention under precautionary measures pending the outcome of the hearings.

The human rights committee of their political organization welcomed the court ruling, stating that the decision represents the formal conclusion of judicial persecution and confirms the innocence of both defendants in the criminal proceedings.

Guillermo López serves as a lawyer and regional coordinator for Vente Venezuela in the state of Trujillo, a role through which he assumed public representation following his arrest in early 2024 and his eventual acquittal. Luis Camacaro is a leader within the same political organization in Yaracuy state and shared the legal proceedings and restrictions alongside López until the charges were dismissed. Vente Venezuela is an opposition political movement led by María Corina Machado, whose national organization and human rights committee monitored and documented the judicial process faced by its members before domestic courts.
