Jesús Suárez Released After GNB Checkpoint Detainment in Portuguesa Over Outdated Arrest Warrant
The citizen released on bail in the Brazalete Blanco case was stopped en route to Caracas while traveling to comply with a court appearance order.
Jesús Samuel Suárez Gil, aged 43, was permitted to continue his travel after being intercepted by Bolivarian National Guard officers during the early hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026, according to defense attorneys who handled the incident as documented in the consulted report.
The stop occurred at the La Cascada road checkpoint, located at kilometer 180 of the José Antonio Páez highway in the state of Portuguesa. Suárez Gil was traveling aboard a public transport bus toward Caracas to comply with a scheduled periodic appearance before a designated Terrorism Court handling his proceedings.
According to consulted sources, the transit halt arose because police databases still displayed an active arrest warrant in his name. Suárez Gil carried his formal release warrant and court-ordered release conditions, granted upon the conclusion of hearings in the case known as Brazalete Blanco, which had led to his departure from detention on October 2, 2026.
Attorneys Eusebio Giménez and Sara Menoni, legal representatives with the nongovernmental organization Foro Penal in Portuguesa, arrived at the military checkpoint to address the administrative hurdle. The lawyers coordinated case verification directly with the commanding captain and a lieutenant colonel stationed at the post, establishing communications with judicial officials in Caracas to confirm the legitimacy of his release documentation. Following clarification of his legal standing, the military officers allowed Suárez Gil to resume his route toward the capital.
Jesús Samuel Suárez Gil is a defendant in the Brazalete Blanco trial who was granted alternative measures to detention. His situation required field intervention from attorneys Eusebio Giménez and Sara Menoni, active defense lawyers in Portuguesa affiliated with Foro Penal, an organization providing legal aid to political detainees across Venezuela.
