Temporary Domestic Disembarkation Module Opens at Maiquetia Airport
The provisional facility aims to manage passenger flow and baggage claim as repair work continues on the quake-damaged main terminal.
A provisional disembarkation area for domestic flights has been commissioned at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, located in the coastal state of La Guaira. The installation aims to organize traveler transit and streamline baggage handling while structural repairs proceed on the main terminal complex.
The newly opened space, built with high-resistance tent modules, covers 1,230 square meters and is designed to process 1,633 travelers daily, according to figures released during the inaugural event. This temporary infrastructure supports the continuity of commercial domestic flights, which have been gradually resuming operations since September 1 through an earlier provisional complex spanning approximately 10,000 square meters.
These adaptations are a response to damage caused by the June 24 earthquakes, which forced the suspension of regular operations in the central building. According to project assessments, the full reconstruction of the original terminal facility will not be concluded within the current year, requiring the ongoing use of auxiliary setups to sustain air connectivity.
The opening of the module was led by Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, who oversaw the activation of the site as part of broader regional restoration efforts in La Guaira, an agenda that also included the delivery of rehabilitated housing and the reopening of hospital wings in the area.
