UN Human Rights Council Renews Venezuela Mandates Until 2028
According to the report consulted, on 6 October 2026 the Human Rights Council approved by 25 votes in favor, 5 against and 17 abstentions the two-year extension of the International Independent Fact-Finding Mission and OHCHR monitoring mechanisms.
According to the report consulted, the United Nations Human Rights Council renewed on 6 October 2026 the mandates of the International Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for two additional years, until 2028.
The vote passed with 25 in favor, 5 against and 17 abstentions. Sponsoring countries included Chile, Argentina, Canada, Ecuador, Guatemala, Paraguay and Uruguay, together with European and Asian allies.
Created in 2019, the Mission investigates human rights violations since 2014.
