United States confirms receipt of 15,000 tons of aluminum shipped from Venezuela
The cargo arrived at the Port of Avondale in New Orleans and marks the first such shipment since 2018, according to the consulted report.
According to the consulted report, the United States government confirmed receipt of approximately 15,000 metric tons of primary aluminum from Venezuela. The metal reached the Port of Avondale in New Orleans around October 5, 2026.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum stated that this is the first strategic aluminum shipment from Venezuela since bilateral relations were normalized. Burgum specified that the 15,000 tons are destined for sectors including vehicle assembly, appliances, phones, power transmission lines and aircraft.
The aluminum was produced by CVG Venalum, the Venezuelan state-owned company based in Ciudad Guayana. The commercial operation involved Heeney Capital, a U.S. investment firm focused on critical minerals, and Mercuria Energy Group, a Switzerland-based commodities trader.
The consulted report indicates this is the first Venezuelan aluminum export to the United States since 2018.
