Luis Peche Arteaga returns to Caracas after 498 days in exile
The political consultant announced his arrival in the Venezuelan capital through a social media post, nearly a year after surviving an armed attack in Bogotá.
According to the source consulted, according to reported information, Luis Peche Arteaga announced his return to Caracas after 498 days of exile. The political consultant communicated his arrival via a post on X accompanied by photographs with his mother and Carlos Marcano.
Peche Arteaga had left Venezuela in May 2025 following the detention of Marcano. In October 2025 he survived an armed attack in Bogotá in which he sustained six wounds, while Yendri Velásquez suffered eight. The case remains without judicial clarification in Colombia.
The consultant, founder of Sala 58 and holder of dual Venezuelan-Colombian nationality, stated that the return carries risks and that the country still lacks independent institutions. He said that an attempt was made on his life in Bogotá and that he never stopped dreaming of coming back.
The return occurs after Peche Arteaga continued his work from abroad despite ongoing threats to his safety. The announcement agrees on the details of the exile, the attack and the return, although it does not specify the exact date of his physical re-entry into the capital.
Peche Arteaga, Marcano and Velásquez maintain documented close ties through the events described. The consultant resumes his activity in Venezuela amid persistent threats to his physical integrity, while the attack he suffered in Colombia remains unresolved by the courts. Marcano, a journalist and former political prisoner, appears with Peche Arteaga in the images released after the return. Velásquez, a human rights activist, shared the October 2025 attack with him.
